Brunico/Bruneck Castle
Brunico/Bruneck Castle

Above the rooftops of the old town

Former summer residence of the prince-bishops, now a museum

Bruneck Castle, whose construction dates back to around 1250, stands prominently on Bruneck's town hill. From there, visitors can look directly down on the old town centre - and discover the interior of the old walls, such as the royal chambers or the steward's flat. Since 2011, the castle has also been home to the Messner Mountain Museum RIPA by extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner, which displays art objects, reconstructed homes, films and stories from and about mountain peoples from all over the world.
